
Sir William Arthur Lewis (January 23, 1915 – June 15, 1991) was a Saint Lucian economist known for major contributions to development economics. He taught at the London School of Economics and the University of Manchester, advised newly independent Ghana, served as Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, became a professor at Princeton University, and received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1979.
