Stokely Carmichael, also known as Kwame Ture (June 29, 1941 – November 15, 1998), was a Trinidadian-American activist who became a major figure in the American Civil Rights Movement. He rose to prominence through the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), later served as Honorary Prime Minister of the Black Panther Party, and became closely associated with Black Power, Black nationalism, and Pan-Africanism.
